LETTER FROM EDWARD G. RENDELL
GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF PENNSYLVANIA

GREETINGS:

I am pleased to join with NAFSA: Association of International Educators in extending my regards to all those participating in International Education Week in Pennsylvania.

As the swift tide of globalization advances, it has never been more important to bridge the divide that exists between different cultures. It is essential that each and every child in our global community receives the education they deserve because they are tomorrow's leaders. It is important that we continue to challenge, educate, and provide our youth with the opportunity to learn from, and about, other cultures. Through various cultural exchange programs, diversity forums, and cross-cultural celebrations, schools across the commonwealth are teaching our youth to preserve the time-honored traditions, cultures, and heritage of our nation's people. As tomorrow's leaders, our youth are the nation's most cherished resource and we cannot ignore, forget, or overlook our obligation to provide them with the educational resources needed to realize a future filled with progress, enlightenment, and hope. This year's sixth annual celebration of International Education Week serves as a wonderful opportunity for us to reflect upon the many cultural opportunities available within our commonwealth that can awaken our children's minds to the beauty and complexity in the world around them.

As Governor, I join with NAFSA: Association of International Educators in recognition of November 14-18, 2005, as International Education Week in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

EDWARD G. RENDELL
Governor
