PROCLAMATION BY BRAD HENRY
GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA

Whereas, International Education Week, founded in 2000, is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the U.S. Department of Education; and

Whereas, International Education Week is an important week observed all across the United States and in more than 100 countries in November of each year; and

Whereas, International Education Week provides an opportunity for exchange students from all over the world to teach their host communities about their cultures, and highlights the benefits of international educational exchange programs; and

Whereas, the worldwide celebration of International Education Week, offers a unique opportunity to reach out to people in every nation, to develop a broader understanding of world cultures and languages and to reiterate the conviction that enduring friendships and partnerships created through international education and exchange are important for a secure future for all countries; and

Whereas, we encourage the participation in International Education Week of all persons and institutions concerned with international education and exchange activities, including schools, colleges, and universities, embassies, international organizations, businesses, associations, and community organizations;

Now, therefore, I, Brad Henry, Governor of the State of Oklahoma, do hereby proclaim November 14-18, 2005, as

“International Education Week”

in the State of Oklahoma.

In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Oklahoma to be affixed.

Done at the Capitol, in the City of Oklahoma City, this 25th day of October in the Year of Our Lord two thousand and five, and the State of Oklahoma in the ninety-seventh year.
