PROCLAMATION BY JOHN HOEVEN
GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH DAKOTA
WHEREAS, in partnership with the U.S. Department of
State and the U.S. Department of Education, the state
of North Dakota is celebrating International Education
Week to promote the importance of international education
studies and programs; and
WHEREAS, thousands of international education and exchange
programs - public and private, campus-based and national
- promote the sharing of ideas and experiences across
international borders, including study abroad programs,
citizen and scholarly exchanges, foreign students on
U.S. campuses, area and foreign language studies, and
global approaches to U.S. education; and
WHEREAS, currently, more than 1,500 foreign students
are studying at North Dakota colleges and universities
as part of education and exchange programs; and
WHEREAS, North Dakota citizens and educational institutions
are encouraged to recognize the importance of international
education and promote international exchange as a way
to broaden the educational experiences of our young
people, while enhancing mutual understanding and acceptance.
NOW, THEREFORE, as Governor of the State of North Dakota,
I do hereby proclaim November 14-18, 2005, INTERNATIONAL
EDUCATION WEEK in the state of North Dakota.
