PROCLAMATION BY BILL RICHARDSON
GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO
WHEREAS, the State of New Mexico is committed to promoting
tolerance and helping to build friendships between the
United States and other nations; and
WHEREAS, across the country, thousands of international
education and exchange programs, both public and private,
campus-based and nationwide, promote the sharing of
ideas and experiences across borders; and
WHEREAS, these include study abroad programs, citizen
and scholarly exchanges, foreign students on U.S. campuses,
area and foreign language studies, as well as global
approaches to U.S. education, that enable our students
to participate in the increasingly global marketplaces
of economics and ideas; and
WHEREAS, more than 2,000 foreign students currently
study at New Mexico colleges and universities; and
WHEREAS, international education is a valuable means
of enhancing mutual understanding and acceptance, and
holds an important place in the lives of citizens and
institutions of our State;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Bill Richardson, Governor of the
State of New Mexico, do hereby proclaim, November 14
- 18, 2005, as INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION WEEK throughout
the State of New Mexico.
