PROCLAMATION BY DAVE HEINEMAN
GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEBRASKA
WHEREAS, In partnership with the U.S. Department of
State and the U.S. Department of Education, the State
of Nebraska will celebrate International Education Week
November 14 - 18, 2005. Let us recommit ourselves to
promoting tolerance and building friendships between
United States and other nations; and
WHEREAS, International education and exchange include
thousands of programs, public and private, campus-based
and national, that promote the sharing of ideas and
experiences across borders. These include study abroad
programs, citizen and scholarly exchanges, foreign students
on U.S. campuses, area and foreign language studies
and global approaches to U.S. education. Currently,
over 3,000 foreign students are studying at Nebraska
colleges and universities; and
WHEREAS, In support of U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza
Rice and Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings,
I call upon the citizens and institutions of Nebraska
to participate in celebrating this week and to recognize
the importance of international education in our lives
and communities and to promote international educational
exchange as a way to enhance mutual understanding and
acceptance.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Dave Heineman, Governor of the State
of Nebraska, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM the week of November
14 - 18, 2005, as INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION WEEK in Nebraska,
and I do hereby urge all citizens to take due note of
the observance.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand, and
cause the Great Seal of the State of Nebraska to be
affixed this Seventeenth day of October, in the year
of our Lord Two Thousand Five.
