PROCLAMATION BY JENNIFER M. GRANHOLM
GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN

On behalf of the citizens of Michigan, I, Governor Jennifer M. Granholm hereby proclaim the week of November 14, 2005, as INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION WEEK.

WHEREAS, International education and exchange include thousands of programs, public and private, campus-based and national, that promote the sharing of ideas and experiences across borders; and

WHEREAS, The programs include study abroad programs, citizen and scholarly exchanges, foreign students of U.S. campuses, area and foreign language studies, and global approaches to U.S. education; and

WHEREAS, There are currently 22,000 foreign students studying at Michigan colleges and universities; and

WHEREAS, It is important to recognize the significant impact international education has on our lives and in our communities and to promote international educational exchanges as a way to enhance mutual understanding and acceptance; and now therefore be it,

RESOLVED, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of November 14, 2005, as International Education Week.
