PROCLAMATION BY DIRK KEMPTHORNE
GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF IDAHO

WHEREAS, getting along in a world of interconnected cultures and countries is of paramount importance and benefit to the well-being and safety of us all; and

WHEREAS, a prime builder for understanding and respecting one another is learning about each others’ ways, beliefs, languages, and systems of government; and

WHEREAS, it is important for all of us to recognize the similarities among different cultures, develop an open mind to alternative ways of thinking, and prepare for the variety of experiences they will encounter later in life; and

WHEREAS, since the year 2000, the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of State have declared “International Education Week” to be observed and celebrated annually the week prior to Thanksgiving, and have encouraged the participation of all individuals and institutions interested in international education and exchange activities; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DIRK KEMPTHORNE, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim November 14th though 18th, 2005, to be INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION WEEK in Idaho.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused to be affixed the Great Seal of the State of Idaho at the Capitol in Boise on this eighth day of November in the year of our Lord two-thousand and five and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred thirtieth and of the Statehood of Idaho the one hundred sixteenth.
