PROCLAMATION BY MIKE HUCKABEE
GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS
TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS COME -- GREETINGS:
WHEREAS, in partnership with the U.S. Department of
State and the U.S. Department of Education, the State
of Arkansas will celebrate International Education Week
November 14-18, 2005; and
WHEREAS, let us recommit ourselves to promoting tolerance
and building friendships between the United States and
other nations; and
WHEREAS, international education and exchange include
thousands of programs, public and private, campus-based
and national, that promote the sharing of ideas and
experiences across borders; and
WHEREAS, these programs include study abroad programs,
citizen and scholarly exchanges, foreign students on
U.S. campuses, area and foreign language studies, and
global approaches to U.S. education; and
WHEREAS, currently, almost 3,000 foreign students are
studying at Arkansas colleges and universities; and
WHEREAS, in support of U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza
Rice and Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings,
I call upon the citizens and institutions of Arkansas
to participate in celebrating this week and to recognize
the importance of international education in our lives
and communities and to promote international educational
exchange as a way to enhance mutual understanding and
acceptance;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mike Huckabee, acting under the
authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Arkansas,
do hereby proclaim, November 14-18, 2005, as INTERNATIONAL
EDUCATION WEEK in the State of Arkansas and encourage
all citizens of Arkansas to join in this observance.
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and
caused the Great Seal of the State of Arkansas to be
affixed this 31st day of October, in the year of our
Lord 2005.
